Sam and I had a great time at the skatepark in Springville, UT. Using the Extreme Motus off-road wheelchair we can do every obstacle in the park with varying degrees of success. Including the crescent moon shaped rail which is the most difficult trick in the park.
When we first arrived at the skatepark I was a little nervous. I’m a 40-year-old man and felt very out of place with the cool kids at the skate park. I thought they would try and make fun of us. Sam and I were able to earn their respect by nailing some of the hardest obstacles in the park.
As we did the rail a few of the skateboarders who were using it as a bench had to jump off as Sam barrelled toward them. I overheard one of them tell his friend, “Dude, not even Tyler can do that whole rail.”
That is how Sam and I became the best and most respected skateboarders in Springville, Utah.
Tony Hawking
I posted some short clips of our stunts to the Extreme Motus TikTok channel and they racked up over 600,000 views in just a few days. Some of the commenters dubbed Sam “Tony Hawking” a clever mashup of professional skateboarder Tony Hawk and wheelchair bound super genius Steven Hawking.
When Sam and I began visiting the skateparks in our area I started to talk some trash on the real Tony Hawk over social media. “Watch your back Tony Hawk. Training for our showdown with Tony Hawk.”
Eventually, Tony or the person who manages Tony’s social media accounts took notice and shared our video with Tony’s followers. He used the caption, “You guys have already won… I don’t stand a chance.”
It was so cool to have Tony Hawk share our video!
I think in the future we will visit other skateparks and try them out. Maybe even bring a helmet too. Who wants to see some Tony Hawking merch?
